In Math, we have continued to work on speed drills in order to improve automaticity. Please use the resources on the additional resources page to continue practicing and reviewing at home. We have reviewed 2x2 digit multiplication and have learned a new strategy called the area model method. Ask your child how it's done! They can use any strategy that works for them, this was just an alternative. We just finished reviewing how to apply this skill when solving problems. We will have a check in quiz next week. Students also learned a new online game called "Prodigy" which I can assign them curricular math challenges which review what we have learned so far in the year... and they love it!
In Science, we are learning about the nutrient cycle, water cycle and photosynthesis and how these contribute to the health of the forest. The students will be making 3D mobiles next week to summarize their understanding. In Humanities we are continuing to look at our municipal (local) government and what this government does for us. We are also reading a class novel, "Airborn," by Kenneth Opel. Students did their first reflection on the book and provided some predictions about what they think are going to happen in the story.
