Here is a checklist that students can use to help them study for the math PAT (on Monday, June 18). I would suggest using it as a "visual checklist" to ensure they have a basic understanding of each of the concepts listed. If there is something they are unsure of, I encourage them to use their notes and work from their duotangs as well as the videos and weblinks on the additional resources page. Happy studying!
math_key_outcomes_for_pats.pdf We have been encouraging the students to take home their past and current notes in order to prepare for their PATs beginning next week. We have been busy reviewing, taking practice PATs and going over several study strategies that they can be using at home. We are attaching the PAT exam dates here again. It is very important for students to be on time especially for these days and to have had a great sleep and eat a good breakfast. It is also a great idea for them to bring a healthy snack and a water bottle if they don't usually have one at school.
Thursday, June 14 - Science PAT Friday, June 15 - English Language Arts part B (reading) Monday, June 18 - Math Part A and Part B Tuesday, June 19 - Social Studies Just another reminder that there are plenty of links on the additional resources page that they can use to study along with review videos for concepts if they need to review something. The PAT practice exams are on there too and are at the top of the page. Here is what the Calgary reads book sale raised this year – thank you for your help!
http://calgaryreads.com/cbc-calgary-reads-big-book-sale-2018-post-sale/ Wow! This week really flew by and PAT's are coming up quickly. We are finishing up most of our last units and starting to plan out review for the exams. There are extra resources that continue to be given to students and added to the blog.
Homework to finish up this weekend: Math practice sheets 3, 4 and 6 Democracy report cards and video Constellation project Math review cards
Print them from home if you want a copy, they are a great overall review of most of the concepts we've learned this year. review_cards_cumulative_math.docx Iroquois Confederacy Study Guide
*You can use your notes, the textbook chapter, websites, the study guide and/or unit review (handed out in class) to help you study for your test We will be wrapping up our focus on patterns this week with a quiz on Friday, May 25. The students are being encouraged to take home their duotangs to review the work that we have done in class in order to prepare for the quiz. Next week we will start our last unit on geometry and angles. The world is filled with shapes large and small, with angles, lines and different geometric shapes. It’s the oldest math, the most basic math - “What shapes fit together to let me build something?” In this unit, students will be exploring the world of angles, polygons, volume and area, as well as how we can measure these. Lastly, students will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes with their different characteristics and learning how to transform (move) them around coordinate grids.
In science the students will be learning about the sun, moon and constellations this week. We are wrapping up our unit on the Iroquois Confederacy this week in Humanities and students will have a quiz next week. We will be working on a final democracy project in which students will need to think back about the pillars of democracy and how they fit into each type of government we have learned about. They will get an opportunity to videotape themselves talking about their own points of view and how fair and equitable each type is to them. This will lead us to talking more about democracy in action and how citizens can take part in the government. After that, our final unit of study in Humanities will be on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Only 6 weeks to go... |
