Wednesday – PJ Day (school appropriate) Thursday – Dance and Activity Afternoon Other SPIRIT activities this week: Monday: Hot chocolate ($1) and caroling in the gym at lunch – 12:25 Tuesday: Rice Krispies ($1) and caroling in the gym at lunch – 12:45 Wednesday: Christmas Cookies ($1-2) and caroling in the gym at lunch – 12:45 Thursday: Stocking Probability in the main foyer ($1)…video to come from Ms. Malayko to explain the details (shown by teachers in Homerooms) ** all proceeds go to the ChooseKind Project and Inn from the Cold** The student's will be given regular check in quizzes either weekly or bi-weekly (depending on what we have done within each week) in order to continue to review/reinforce/practice concepts throughout the year. They will have their first one Friday, December 15. We are hoping that this will also help them to continue to prepare and feel less anxious about the PAT (provincial exam) at the end of the year, given the number of concepts they learn.
The student's have started to work towards a science fair project which will be presented at the school level, the evening of January 25.
The student's have been introduced to this project at school and will have school time to work on it. As always, they are encouraged to put in extra work and effort at home if at all possible. They will be working in partners and a trifold has been purchased for each pair. Here is a link to resources which can be used to help guide the project process and give some ideas in order to get started: http://kodiakscde.weebly.com/mr-kassem---scimath Experimental vs. Research projects... how to frame your theses or hypothesis: n-exp_research_projects.pdf experimental_projects.pdf How to cite resources used for the project: http://www.citethisforme.com In math we have been learning all about integers. Integers are WHOLE numbers, both positive and negative. Did you know that when we look at a youtube video, the likes and dislikes are represented in integer form (positive and negative!)? We are learning to recognize, order, and compare integers. We have also been looking at practice PAT exam questions. We are looking at how to answer multiple choice questions. Looking for important information, weeding out the information that we don't need and eliminating answers are all great strategies. We have also discussed that although you find one correct answer, keep looking at the other options to make sure there isn't an option that is even better... or there may be more than one answer to the question too, you never know! Integers will take us until the Christmas break and if time, we will look at place value to thousandths, and multiplying and dividing decimals along with problem solving using those concepts.
Monday - Lights Out!

We finished our democracy comic strips (finally!) and they were due today. If yours is not completed, please finish it and hand it in to Mrs. Farrell ASAP.
