I have decided to change the date of the math quiz that was to be tomorrow, on Friday, Feb 9 to Tuesday, Feb 13. We had several students away today so I was not able to finish teaching one concept or do an overall review with them.
The math quiz on decimals has been changed to this Friday (Feb 9). The quiz will review the following concepts learned:
- apply and show an understanding of place value to thousandths - adding and subtracting decimals - multiplying and dividing decimals (1 digit whole number multiplier and 1 digit natural number divisor) - estimating decimal points to check the product or quotient - ordering and comparing decimals - expressing the value of a decimal in word form - multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1 000 - solving word problems with the concepts above We are wrapping up our unit on decimals: rounding decimals, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals (decimals to the thousandths with one digit multiplier or divisor), problem solving with decimals. We will have a quiz on these concepts at the end of the week. Our next topic will be on fractions, ratios and percents.
We are also wrapping up our provincial government unit. Students finished their election campaigns and have a quiz on Tuesday. See our previous blog posts for a study guide and study tips. In Science, we have moved onto learning about air, aerodynamics and flight. I have added some links onto the additional resources page that can be used for practice, review and reinforcement as well. We had a class discussion today about different ways to study. Here are some of the things we came up with:
-Practice, practice, practice! -use the BLOG! There are lots of additional resources we put on there for you to use for practice and review at home :) -Read through your work (use a highlighter when re-reading and to look for main ideas) -Take notes as you review your work (visual notes, pictures, diagrams, webs) -repetition -Make diagrams -Draw pictures -Look up your topic online -Memorize (try using acronyms) -Play a game (Jeopardy, Memory, etc. or make up your own) -Create a quiz -Quiz someone else or teach someone else something that you learned -Make up a song using the information you have learned -Study in different places (ex. not always in your room) -Flashcards -Look up study websites online Did you know that any grade 6 student who brings their grade 5 report card into any YMCA location will get a free membership? The new YMCA opens in Rocky Ridge soon and looks like it is going to be a great space!
